It’s been another action packed month hosting a number of business events here at Origin Workspace. Even though our brand new collaborative workspace in Clifton won’t be up and running until early 2019, it’s full steam ahead for our monthly Workout + Network sessions.
The Secrets of Successful Networking with Melissa Kidd
This month we hosted a practical workshop focusing on the art of successful networking with professional communicator Melissa Kidd. Aimed at anyone who has a fear of networking or doesn’t feel they get value from business events, it was full of practical tips and guidance on how to get out of those awkward networking situations we’ve all experienced.
From preparing in advance for a networking event to correctly following up with new contacts afterwards, the workshop also included a 20-minute networking slot to allow attendees to practice what they learned.
If you missed the event but are keen to be a more effective networker, Melissa will be returning to Origin Workspace later in the year to run a session on how to be memorable networker – so watch this space for details!
Self Defence Workshop with Colin Lee Berry
Have you ever wondered what you’d do if you were in a threatening situation on the street?
Although rare, it’s important to be prepared. Martial arts expert Colin Lee Berry was on hand earlier this month to give us practical tips and useful moves if we’re ever caught up in a violent confrontation.
Designed to work against larger and stronger opponents, the moves were quick and easy to learn and surprisingly effective. Colin stressed that everything we learned during the workshop should only be used as a last case scenario but everyone agreed they felt much more confident in the knowledge that they had a few surprise manoeuvres up their sleeves, just in case. While this was a serious topic, the session was fun and informative and just the tonic for a spot of mid-week, stress-busting exercise.
Workout + Network – Yoga and talk with Paul Waters
At May’s Workout + Network, the lovely Catherine from YogiMums ran a wonderful yoga session to wake everyone up and stretch out our muscles ready for the week ahead after the long bank holiday weekend. Following the 40 minute workout, everyone had time to grab a bit of breakfast provided by Nico’s Kitchen and mingle over a cup of coffee or two.
Health and fitness expert Paul Waters from Balance Health gave us a 15 minute presentation on how our stress levels fluctuate and offered practical tips to manage stress in a healthy way. As well as personal training and running customised nutrition and exercise programmes, Paul is also working on his first book.
If you missed any of our events last month, be sure to check out the full event schedule for next month, and if you have any suggestions for potential speakers/ talks please share your suggestions.
