We spent some time with James McNicol, Regional Director of EA Change Group, a leading supplier of Change Consultants to the Banking and Financial Services community. We got his take on life in Bristol, his role at EACG and working out of Origin Workspace.

What does your day-to-day role involve?

I have a wide remit, managing the day-to-day recruitment for our clients within financial services, private and public sectors. I’m also responsible for developing our new client relationships within our specialist markets which are Business Change, IT and Digital Transformation. Every day is varied, for instance right now I’m doing figures for the next financial year, but above all, I manage a portfolio of clients, and also look to bring on and develop new business.

What’s the best thing about working in Bristol?

EACG also has offices in Edinburgh, London, and Leeds, but I love working in Bristol, it’s a cool city with a lot going for it. It’s small enough to be able to get around and bump into people you know, but it’s big enough to have all the great amenities you expect from a thriving centre.

The wellness aspect of Origin Workspace is a big draw for us. I cycle everywhere, so personally it’s a huge factor and selling point when we’re looking to attract new consultants.

From a professional point of view, it’s got a great hub for financial services clients, which we specialise in, but at the same time, it’s like the Silicon Valley of the South West with all the digital startups we look to work with as well. It’s just a good place to be.

Why did you choose to base your company from Origin Workspace?

We met with Rob Hingston and the other community hosts and just really liked everyone. We bought into what Origin Workspace is trying to achieve and the sorts of businesses they attract.

As a branch office, we’re relatively small and we’re looking to attract and onboard 20 somethings to work with us. With what Origin Workspace has done with the development, and the money that they’ve invested, it’s certainly an attractive place to work. It’s got a really good vibe and there’s always plenty going on.

How do you keep a healthy work/life balance?

The wellness aspect of Origin Workspace is a big draw for us. I cycle everywhere, so personally it’s a huge factor and selling point when we’re looking to attract new consultants. The whole persona of Origin Workspace really compliments our brand.
